This week, augmented reality (AR) creative content developer Speed 3D Inc unveiled its ‘FunkAR: AR Gifting Service Platform,’ a webAR digital gifting platform with advanced eCommerce functions.

The new platform is a service that enables friends and family to send AR greeting cards globally just ahead of the Christmas season.

Funk AR combines remote communications technology with emerging eCommerce assets such as non-fungible tokens (NFTs), enabling quick deliveries of bespoke, fully customisable AR cards or gifts.

Speed 3D Inc notes AR cards may be the introduction and “entrance” to the Metaverse for many new users.

Marvin Chiu, Chairman, Chief Executive for Speed 3D Inc, explained:

“Virtual identities, diverse contents, and immersive experiences are all necessary to construct the Metaverse. To this, we are completely ready”

The platform also plans to incorporate 5G/6G technology to provide low-latency services for users.

He added,

“In order to achieve an ideal reality and immersive experience, content exquisiteness and mobile phone performance, alongside the popularity of 5G and 6G are distinctively important”

Those interested can scan a FunkAR QR code to browse various AR gift options, and its digital storefront has several options for Christmas, Thanksgiving, and birthday occasions. Funk AR is also offering many of these options for free, including gingerbread, shark, and Santa Claus-themed cards.

Additionally, the storefront has premium cards available for roughly $30 USD, and also contains a greyed-out “AR Material” button, suggesting more content is on its way.
