Epson recently announced its latest generation of Moverio enterprise-grade AR smart glasses, the BT-40, and BT-40s.
The announcement comes ten years after Epson released its first pair of Moverio smart glasses back in 2011, and it’s safe to say the global tech powerhouse has come a long way since then in terms of functionality and innovation.
The latest range of Moverio smart glasses, while not strikingly dissimilar in appearance to older models, offer a significant number of updated features and benefits to enhance the user experience, operational performance, and efficiency amongst enterprise users.
Along with a more expansive, 34-degree field of view (FOV) that’s equivalent to viewing a 120″ screen from a distance of 5 meters, the BT-40 and BT-40s also deliver an increased full HD 1080p display resolution (1920 x 1080) for added clarity and precision.
Added to this, the vastly improved 500,000:1 contrast ratio of the Moverio BT-40 and BT-40s means all unused display space seen within the user’s FOV will be completely transparent, thus smoothly blending augmented realities with real work environments.

Both headsets will also feature the fourth generation of Moverio’s innovative binocular see-through Si-OLED technology and offer a modified headset design that disperses weight evenly throughout the headset for better comfort during extended use periods.
There’s also full USB Type-C connectivity, meaning users will be able to connect their BT-40 or BT-40s headsets to a wide range of compatible mobile devices such as smartphones, tablets, and laptops – making the devices an excellent option for workers on the go.
Commenting on the release, Valerie Riffaud-Cangelosi, Head of Market Development, stated, “this is a proud and exciting moment for Epson as we bring to market our fourth generation of Moverio augmented reality smart glasses. We have been in the AR space for ten years now, continuously improving our offering in response to customer and developer feedback. In the last two years, the technology has truly come of age as we have witnessed a significant increase in real and practical use cases for Moverio.
“The pandemic has accelerated many applications, improving remote communications to deliver better operational efficiency, reduced costs, and lower carbon footprint. The newest products – the BT-40S and BT-40 – will enable even more applications to come to market as users take advantage of improved features such as greater field of view, connectivity, resolution, and contrast,” she added.
The Moverio BT-40 and BT-40S AR headsets, valued at $579 and $999, respectively, are now open for pre-order on the Epson website ahead of their release for sale in Q2 2021.
