Dell Technologies, a major US computer manufacturer, recently introduced a new app to repair Dell systems using augmented reality (AR) technologies.

The company’s AR Assistant tool provides instructions for consumers to repair over 100 devices, including some of its Presario, XPS, Alienware, Inspiron, Vostro, and Latitude PCs and laptops, and is freely available to download on Android and iOS smartphones, tablets, and other devices.

The app allows users to overlay repair information via their devices and access 360-degree digital twins of some of the Rock Round, Texas-based firm’s products using its Clone Technology.

Dell hopes to boost sustainability and repair access by using the app rather than remote professionals, namely after the onset of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. The tech firm expedited the release of the new tool as technicians could not travel onsite due to national lockdown restrictions.
