Today at AWE 2024, XREAL Beam Pro, an Android-based mobile device that allows users to access Google Play Store services as spatial AR applications access through smart glasses, will be unveiled.  The Beam Pro product allows XREAL smart glasses users to access the AR applications in 360 spatial computing environments, harnessing 3 or 6 degrees of freedom.

Chi Xu, the Founder and CEO of XREAL, added:

AWE 2024 is the perfect backdrop for us to reveal XREAL Beam Pro globally, a groundbreaking mobile device that gives everyone the chance to create their own stunning spatial video content, as well as the opportunity to enjoy a full range of popular entertainment and gaming platforms when paired with the world’s best-selling AR glasses.

Qualcomm’s Snapdragon platform powers the XREAL portfolio and the Beam Pro service, which streams Android applications to an XREAL operator. The Beam Pro device features dual 50MP 3D cameras to record spatial videos and 3D images.

The photography feature is attractive because it creates an Android alternative to Apple’s spatial capture system for Vision Pro.

When Apple’s spatial computing initiative was announced, XREAL quickly established itself as an affordable alternative. By leveraging the Android framework, XREAL is creating an open alternative to Apple’s walled garden at a lower price. Moreover, XREAL is also aiming for productivity by supporting XR product initiatives such as its partnership with Sightful.

Xu also noted that the Beam Pro provides a “uniquely simple design that features a familiar Android mobile experience to open the door to a new world of spatial computing that everyone can enjoy.”

More on Beam Pro

According to XREAL, the first model of the Beam product achieved a 70% attach rate with the firm’s AR headsets, including XREAL Air, XREAL Air 2, and XREAL Air 2 Pro devices.  After this success, XREAL plans to attract a more extensive install base with the Beam Pro’s enhanced features. XREAL users can access Play Store streaming services, cloud gaming, and social media content through the Beam Pro device.

The Beam Pro comes in various forms to fit multiple users. Starting at $199.00, Beam Pro devices come as either a Wi-Fi or 5G dedicated product with additional specifications that vary based on the models chosen – including a 6.5-inch LCD 2K (2400 x 1080) touchscreen display, Android 14 OS, XREAL Nebula OS, 27W fast charging, Bluetooth 5.2 support, 6GB/128GB storage WiFi, 8GB/256GB storage 5G, and gesture control support.

XREAL is debuting Beam Pro in the United States, United Kingdom, Germany, France, Italy, Netherlands, Czech Republic, China, and Japan. Customers will be able to order the device in July, and shipment dates are forecasted for August.

Leveraging Major Industry Partners

As mentioned, the Beam Pro device helps to continue XREAL’s Android-based spatial computing journey. To help secure this vision, XREAL is working with a critical lineup of partners to guarantee its place as a truly open Andriod alternative to Vision Pro.

Chi Xu also noted:

Working with companies including Qualcomm Technologies, NVIDIA and others, we see the mobile internet evolving to the spatial internet and foresee XREAL Beam Pro plus XREAL glasses becoming one of the most powerful AR solutions to explore millions of apps in 3D space.

Its partners include Qualcomm, which offers its Snapdragon Platform and provides up to 8GB of system memory for the Beam Pro. The firm is also helping to connect XREAL’s Beam Pro 5G model with Qualcomm’s connectivity carriers.

Sahil Bansal, the Senior Director of Product Management at Qualcomm Technologies, explained:

We are dedicated to advancing the XR industry and we’re thrilled to power XREAL Beam Pro, enabling XREAL to bring new AR innovations to spatial computing,” said, Inc. “It’s exciting to see companies like XREAL bring new devices to the ecosystem, making AR more accessible.

Another major partner helping XREAL is coming through NVIDIA. This partner is helping Beam Pro stream RT3D content via its CloudXR technology. The cloud-based streaming service leverages RTX GPU to secure high-quality XR visual rendering. Moreover, NVIDIA’s integrated technology will help users access large, resource-intensive enterprise datasets.

Finally, Amazon Web Services (AWS) is lending its hand by providing additional cloud-based streaming abilities to the XREAL device, which the vendors note gives Beam Pro developers with a range of flexible and accessible AR tools.
