Augmented reality (AR) has the power to “change the way we live”, according to Psychic VR Lab Partner Kevin Joyce.
Joyce, who will be speaking at the inaugural XR Summit on September 22nd, added that progress in WebAR democratisation means that distribution no longer needs the support of “a massive corporation anymore.”
Psychic VR Lab is the parent company of STYLY, an augmented and virtual reality (AR/VR) content creation and distribution service.
Dan Firth, Vice President of Avataar, also joins XR Today’s WebAR Summit session. Avataar is developing immersive and interactive shopping experiences utilising AR to enhance the buyer’s journey.
Dan added,
“We have a huge need for [WebAR] content. We talk about the advent of the Metaverse for example, everyone is talking about the Metaverse, but one of the biggest things in discussion is how to get content into there”
Extended Reality Standardisation and Democratisation
At the upcoming event, speakers will explain how standardised and democratised AR creation services such as Unity help to build content-rich WebAR infrastructure.

Many low and no-code builders assist with immersive content distribution across real-time 3D (RT3D)-ready applications such as STYLY or Meta Horizon.
Although the mass adoption of low-code builders from individuals to small and large-scale enterprises is necessary to support more RT3D content, Frith explains:
“That is why standardisation groups like Khronos are really important because they are setting ways for individuals using no or low-code builders to get their content into a Metaverse platform”
He added that thanks to extended reality (XR) standardisation groups, WebAR content creation is moving away from bespoke formats and towards a wider breadth of RT3D developers.
Both speakers agreed that AR is most effective in the hands of everyone. Dan states how low-code AR builders can enable “my Dad to put a picture on his wall and my kids, using AR, to play games.”
