Ingalls Information Security has been awarded a US patent for its Viewpoint software in late March, with the groundbreaking platform set to reshape the way professionals interact with big data.

The software allows users to monitor network security via a three dimensional (3D) interface and combines visualised network traffic along with security alerts and other updates.

Spatial interaction with data removes the need to trawl through massive amounts of technical data on spreadsheets, providing major advancements in cybersecurity for specialists.

According to the cybersecurity risk management firm, Viewpoint will tackle the problem of excessive data and lack of analysts in the field who have to sift through huge amounts of spreadsheet data.

What Are the Benefits of Viewpoint?

The Woodworth, Louisiana-based firm said in a recent press release Viewpoint will allow specialists to visualise large volumes of cybersecurity data as well as provide vital context to investigate threats.

The new platform will also provide insights to facilitate decision making in cybercrime as well as allow users to monitor analytics on security breaches for further cybersecurity training.

The software also includes artificial intelligence (AI) based on existing human behavioural patterns to boost awareness of cybercriminal activity for security experts, adding a major advantage over current data models.

It has also been designed for several cybersecurity divisions, including mission defence teams, incident responders (IR), cyber protection teams (CPTs) and many others. The software also supports professionals in the Virtual and Augmented Reality (AR/VR) industry faced with security threats.

Speaking on the need for visualised cybersecurity data, Jason Ingalls, Chief Executive Officer, said:

“It’s like trying to watch a baseball game through a drinking straw. You never see the whole picture. That’s why we built Viewpoint, to visualize every actor and every event in the cyberspace that we have data for, so we can understand what’s going on and take action a lot faster. We can literally walk through a network node-by-node to trace an event all the way back to its source”

Such tools will become a top priority of cybersecurity specialists as many devices become increasignly interconnected online, namely through the Internet of Things, AR-powered virtual meetings, and others, which could threaten private data and operations, XR Today reported in November last year.
