Virtualware has signed a €5 million agreement to deploy its VIROO platform across 66 Centers of Excellence for Vocational Training under Spain’s Ministry of Education, Vocational Training and Sport (MEFPD).
The six-year agreement places the XR enterprise platform VIROO at the center of Spain’s national strategy to integrate immersive learning tools into Vocational Education and Training (VET).
The initiative aims to strengthen the country’s digital education ecosystem and ensure that future professionals are trained using cutting-edge simulation technologies.
Unai Extremo, Founder and CEO of Virtualware, said the project represents a major step forward in transforming how vocational students acquire technical skills.
“We are opening a new chapter of growth and pedagogical innovation, allowing thousands of students to train with state-of-the-art immersive simulators developed and deployed through VIROO platform, raising their technical skills from day one.
“Our goal is to bring immersive technology to every vocational training classroom in Spain, through a sustainable model for content creation and deployment”
With this new deployment, 66 Centers of Excellence will join more than 25 vocational training centers across Spain that are already equipped with Virtualware’s VIROO platform.
The rollout will establish a connected network of immersive learning environments capable of hosting shared content, simulations, and virtual training programs across diverse technical disciplines.
A National Push for Immersive Education
According to Virtualware, the project marks a milestone not only for the company but also for Spain’s broader educational and industrial innovation goals. VIROO – short for Virtual Reality Operational On-site – enables the creation, management, and deployment of immersive XR content for collaborative training and simulation.
The platform allows institutions and enterprises to design and use virtual environments without requiring specialized programming knowledge, making immersive technology more accessible and scalable.
By embedding VIROO into Spain’s Centre’s of Excellence, the MEFPD aims to create a sustainable model for producing and sharing immersive educational content.
This approach aligns with the government’s efforts to modernize vocational training and support digital transformation across industries such as manufacturing, energy, transportation, and healthcare.
Moreover, institutions maintain full content ownership and control, while benefiting from centralized creation, management, and deployment capabilities that scale seamlessly from pilot projects to nationwide adoption.
The collaboration underscores the growing recognition of immersive technologies as key enablers for workforce development.
A Growing Global Footprint
Founded in 2004, Virtualware has spent more than two decades developing advanced immersive and RT3D solutions for enterprise and education. One of the company’s flagship products, VIROO, has become a benchmark for scalable virtual training systems used by organizations around the world.
Virtualware’s expansion strategy accelerated with the acquisition of Swedish firm Simumatik in October 2024 – an integration that has proven highly successful after one year.
The move strengthened the company’s expertise in digital twin and simulation technologies, with Simumatik’s platform now fully aligned with VIROO and on track to exceed last year’s revenue.
The acquisition forms part of Virtualware’s 2024–2026 Strategic Plan, which focuses on expanding the company’s footprint in key markets across North America and Europe through both organic growth and targeted acquisitions.
The plan also emphasizes partnerships with academic and industrial institutions to drive channel-based growth and innovation.
By combining Simumatik’s digital twin capabilities with VIROO’s immersive environment tools, Virtualware has created a comprehensive ecosystem for simulation, training, and remote collaboration that sets new standards for industrial innovation and education.
What This Deployment Means
The deployment of VIROO across Spain’s vocational training network represents a major step toward establishing immersive technology as a core component of education and professional training.
By enabling thousands of students to train with high-fidelity virtual simulators, the initiative bridges the gap between classroom instruction and real-world application – preparing the next generation of skilled workers for the demands of an increasingly digital industrial landscape.
For Virtualware, the agreement confirms its position at the forefront of immersive innovation and sets the stage for continued growth both in Spain and internationally.
The platform’s multiuser collaboration features – enabling real-time teamwork between students, trainers, and professionals across immersive rooms, headsets, or remote sessions – provide the robust, scalable infrastructure needed for nationwide adoption.
As VIROO becomes a foundation for the country’s VET ecosystem, it demonstrates how extended reality technologies are transforming not just how people learn, but how industries evolve.
