Africa’s premier international television channel broadcasts ‘must-see’ destinations, safaris, accommodation, eateries, art, culture, and the locals to 135 million homes and luxury 24 hours a day.
The device in question is the P1 Ultra 4K. Launched in 2021, it is described by the VR headset designer and manufacturer ‘DPVR’ in its recent press release as its ‘most powerful’ customisable headset.
Ultimately, this technology will contribute to the channel’s mission – stated on its website – to help travellers understand what they can expect from holidays in Africa and enable them to “make informed travel choices”.
Derek Liu, DPVR Sales & Marketing Director, commented on the benefits of incorporating the DPVR VR headsets: “DPVR continues to provide flexible VR headset solutions that can be customised to suit different applications.
“It has been so exciting to see our engineering team help Travel Africa Network bring their idea to life. They are going to use virtual reality to help travellers to plan their next trip.
“Instead of brochures or YouTube videos, they can have an immersive virtual reality experience in incredible 4K resolution with our headset.”
P1 Ultra 4K Features
DPVR offered insights into the key features of its P1 Ultra 4K VR headset, including built-in processing power and 4K screen technology, which come together to offer users high quality images of the continent.
The VR-dedicated has customised the headsets for TAN by creating branded devices and interfaces.
The Africa TV channel’s technology department also utilises augmented reality to create ‘unique’ experiences for regional and international viewers.
TAN will reportedly demo the VR devices for travel agencies so they can witness first-hand how simple and effective tool virtual reality headsets can be to help generate travel bookings.
Travel Africa Tribe, a private business to business (B2B) collaboration platform and community has also been launched by TAN, which uses a VR technology called TribeVR to offer virtual experiences, information, and connection pathways.
The TribeVR app and headsets have been designed specifically for tourism and events requiring high-quality, immersive experiences.
Maggie Mutangiri, CEO and Founder at Travel Africa Network, shared her reaction to the new VR partnership: “We are very excited about our partnership with DPVR to leverage the power of virtual reality technology, helping brands be more effective in engaging with consumers by combining storytelling with technology.
“Our regional and international TribeVR roadshow campaigns are geared towards recovery by instilling confidence, promoting positivity, and reviving the spirit of discovery and what better way to do that than by enabling tourism destinations and brands to convey to the consumer, the intensity and emotion of travelling in Africa before their journey has even started.
Mutangiri continued:
“The complete feeling of immersion that virtual reality provides means that we can use it as a powerful innovative marketing tool for promoting destination Africa.”
TAN is planning to host the world’s biggest consumer VR Travel Show, beginning in Cape Town, South Africa and moving to major cities around the globe.
