Effective May 15, 2024, Unity is introducing Matthew Bromberg as the company’s new Chief Executive Officer, President, and member of the Unity Board of Directors as the firm moves towards deploying its engine as an enterprise-grade RT3D design and collaboration – namely for game development and creating XR applications.
Matthew Bromberg said:

Roelof Botha is also now the leader and independent director of the Board of Unity. Meanwhile, Unity appointed Jim Whitehurst as the Executive Chair of the Unity Board. Late last year, each representative briefly took interim leadership roles following the resignation of Unity’s previous Chief Executive Officer and Chairman.

Matthew Bromberg brings to Unity more than 20 years of industry experience, and he worked to transform Zynga into an internationally leading mobile game developer and publisher.
The experience makes sense regarding XR’s current advances because many vendors and software developers see XR/spatial headsets as a natural evolution of and an accompanying technology for smartphones.
Notably, Unity is a core framework behind the Apple Vision Pro, supporting the rendering of 3D spatial computing applications. The Vision Pro partnership may help boost the Unity platform as a leading XR development engine if Apple’s Vision pulls through.
Moreover, Unity has ties to NVIDIA’s Ominevrse solution, which quickly brings new investment opportunities to forward-thinking businesses via the trusted Unity engine.

Unity’s 2023 Leadership Shakeup
The news comes after John Riccitiello, Unity’s previous President, Chief Executive Officer, and Chairman, resigned from his position at the company late last year.
Riccitiello resigned in light of 2023 controversies surrounding Unity’s pricing structure change – this led to Unity appointing James Whitehurst as the interim CEO and Roelof Botha as the company chairman, the positions now taken by Matthew Bromberg.
The game developer community, which relies on Unity to produce its real-time 3D content, was unhappy with the 2023 fee structuring costs. This included a 20-cent runtime fee for each installation of a game beyond 200,000 downloads and 200,000 in earnings. The company’s decision to apply the changes retroactively for developers creating or releasing their titles further sparked outrage.
Unity is a widely used gaming engine for immersive VR/AR/MR experiences. It is used by enterprises, industries, gaming developers, designers, and metaverse firms. Many were concerned that the previous changes in pricing fees would negatively impact their overall revenues due to the impending retroactive charges.
