This week, US tech giant Microsoft announced its Endpoint Manager platform will officially support RealWear’s market-leading augmented reality (AR) headsets.

Realwear developed the HMT-1 and HMT-1Z1  for specific industrial environments and is the first Android Open Source Project (AOSP)-powered headset backed by Microsoft’s advanced remote collaboration and management software.

The headsets are durable and support voice commands to create a safe and seamless hands-free device capable of withstanding hazardous environments.

Combined with the easy-to-use Microsoft Endpoint Manager, IT staff can deploy and configure RealWear’s remote collaboration platform for large workforces, allowing enterprises to securely deploy headsets for frontline workers to a single location or support remote communication between workers.

Previously, the Vancouver-based firm began working with Microsoft by integrating Teams on its AR wearables, which reportedly increased adoption of the software on RealWear’s devices by 251 percent.

Behind Microsoft Endpoint Manager, Android AOSP

Microsoft’s Endpoint Manager provides a unified cloud management platform in remote or hybrid work environments across devices such as smartphones, tablets, and AR wearables.

The Redmond-based firms’s management solution uses cloud technology to securely manage devices from a central point to improve flexibility as enterprises deploy devices to workforces.

Additionally, Endpoint improves device configuration and compliance with simple QR code scanning to assign devices to frontline workers.

Google’s AOSP is a cross-platform operating system for mobile devices made for in-house developers to create custom versions of Android OS for specific enterprise uses case such as training and onboarding.

Google offers a wide array of support networks to developers through a series of user guides and a dedicated community.

Further Updates in the XR Enterprise Market

These developments come as Microsoft deploys its hands-free AR collaboration solution for enterprises.

International firms LyondellBasell, Suntory, and Hemofarm Pharmaceuticals are also integrating HoloLens 2 hardware and Dynamics 365 networks to improve workplace remote communication.

International IT firm Lenovo has also partnered with Realwear to certify the HMT-1 device for its ThinkReality platform and offer the headset on its global sales network.
