Neos VR is a VR development accelerator solution, developed by a company called Solarix. Founded in 2014, Solarix is a VR specialist based out of Prague. The company’s mission is to build a virtual reality universe, helping others – both independent users and organisations – to get started with creating their own immersive spaces.  The team behind Solarix has a diverse array of experience in technologies like blockchain and disruptive CPU architectures.

Neos VR went into Beta in early 2016 and is now publicly available today in its recent version 2021.2.21.1425. You could call it a metaverse engine, where the solution itself provides the virtual tools and assets you would need to create your own VR project. Neos VR is powered by a unique scripting engine that brings together game engine logic, asset synchronisation, and asynchronous task/asset processing. You can trade inside the platform using Ethereum, and Neos has a vibrant community across social platforms and Discord.

Let’s now delve a little deeper into the Neos VR value proposition.

What Are the Key Features of Neos VR?

At its core, Neos is a spatial computing platform that powers other virtual worlds on top of it. It dynamically synchronises the worlds and behaviours built within it and has the potential for an in-world economy. Here is a look at its key features:

Hardware agnostic performance

Neos VR is designed to work on any consumption device of your choice, including headsets like Oculus, as well as web browsers. This makes it extremely accessible to creators and consumers around the world. It also integrates with Sketchfab to quickly import your VR creations from different devices and platforms.

Realistic movements

Neos is incredibly powerful when it comes to sensing movements inside the VR world. Not only can it track changes in physical positions, but it can also track hand movements and gestures. A recent update added the capability of perceiving eye and lip movements so that VR worlds on Neos can understand and react to facial expressions.

In-world economy

Like many VR worlds, Neos recognises an in-world economy as a prerequisite if immersive spaces are to genuinely mimic and function as real, physical spaces. That’s why Neos has its own cryptocurrency credit system, built on Ethereum. Like any stock market, the value of Neos credits changes every day and it is available in limited amounts.

Radiant UI

The user interface in Neos is called Radiant, which is modular and extensible in nature.  Radiant UI was launched as part of a 2020 update and includes a Facets system where you can swap and extend specific bits of UI as modular pieces onto the underlying Neos VR grid.

What Are the Benefits of Using Neos VR?

The biggest benefit of Neos VR is its frequency of updates, and focus on continually improving the platform’s performance. In the latest February 2021 update, for example, it introduced language fixes and capabilities to optimise resource usage.

How Much Will It Cost?

While Neos VR is free for use for consumers with much of its code available on GitHub, there are monthly and perpetual commercial licenses available (localised rates).
