Anarky Labs and Flyby Guys recently released a video showcasing their AirHUD AR solution. Creating an AR drone that looks like something from a video game.

The patented technology, is currently being used in conjunction with Microsoft’s powerful Hololens 2; also using BJI drones. Not only displaying the drone’s camera feed. But with the pairing of the Hololens 2. Users will be able to see live headset updates, displaying the location of the drone, direction, battery, GPS and more.

Using an AR headset like Hololens 2, allows for some great technology to be integrated alongside the AR drone solution itself.

With recent news of the Hololens 3. The increased consumer grade accessibility of the upcoming Hololens 3, could push the solution to become something incredibly fruitful and widely used.

Who is Involved?

Founded recently in March 2020, Anarky Labs have been dedicated to the AirHUD technology; being established for this project. Currently only working alongside selected DJI drones and controllers, Anarky Labs’ website states that support for other types of drones is planned.

Flyby Guys specialise in 3D video and photo from above ground, with a focus on data extraction and visualisation. Allowing for companies to use high powered cameras to get a detailed analyses of environments, with the unique bird’s eye perspective of a drone camera.

How can This be Used by Construction?

In a case study discussing their partnership with Stara, Flyby used a fleet of drones to capture the district of Arabianrant, Helsinki. Gathering data which allowed for the creation of high-fidelity 3D models of the district.

Stara managed to use the data gathering technology to plan city wide cleaning, like clearing sand from the roads. Further collaborations gave aid to local services; managing streets and parks.

Similarly this can be used for building site inspections; saving a lot of time and cost. Also, the integrated technology will allow for real time inspection and analysis of data during a flyby.

Early access can be found on the Anarky Labs website. By signing up,  people can try out early development builds for 99 €/month.

The sign up page says: “Do you want to be part of something big, revolutionizing the future of Augmented Reality within industries?” It’s clear to see the potential of this merge of pre existing technologies.

This is a unique perspective on AR, with similar solutions being developed for law enforcement and EMS by Thirdeye. As well as the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, creating a solution which makes live 3D terrain maps out of any bird’s eye flat surface.

But as the hardware and software develops. And as more and more drones become compatible, AR drone solutions will be seen taking flight within a busy market anytime now.
