It’s been an exciting start in February here at XR Today, with plenty of breaking news, cutting edge reviews, and some critical insights for enterprise XR in 2021 and beyond.
During the week, we kicked off our AR Smart Glasses and Wearables month by discussing some breaking announcements and leading products from leading vendors like Vuzix and InWith.
We also delivered some strategic content to help our readers capitalize on the rapid growth of augmented reality and wearables in the B2B space.
Here are all the biggest highlights from the last seven days.
Vuzix M4000 AR Smart Glasses Review
After Vuzix made all the headlines at CES 2021 in January with the announcement of its new MicroLED smart glasses, we decided to take a closer look at what else the company had to offer.
Over the last few years, Vuzix has slowly been building up its reputation as a leading vendor in the AR smart glasses space, and their flagship M4000 is a testament to how far the company has come.
Built on the powerful Snapdragon XR1 platform, the M4000 offers a wide range of cutting-edge features to improve operational efficiency and performance in the workplace, making it one of the most sought-after enterprise AR headsets in the marketplace today. InWith Announce Smart Contact Lenses
As if the arrival of high-quality AR smart glasses in the enterprise wasn’t enough to blow our minds already, InWith’s recent announcement of its upcoming smart lenses at CES2021 has taken things to a whole new level.
During the CES demonstration, InWith explained it currently holds numerous patents for smart contact lens technology and is now the only company capable of integrating display tech into soft contact lens materials in this way.
Much like the smartphone’s arrival in the mid-2000s, the InWith team stated this technology could transform entire industries and could be the ultimate medium for discrete AR experience soon.
Why Every Business Needs a Smart Glasses Strategy
While AR smart glasses infamously stalled in the consumer space with the premature arrival of Google Glass back in 2014, 2021 is already looking like the year when the technology starts to take off at scale – especially in the enterprise.
As well as improving productivity and collaboration, AR smart glasses can also help organizations cut back on cost, deliver better customer experience, speed up training, and attract the best new talent – but how, exactly?
To find out more, take a look at all the reasons why every business needs a smart glasses strategy in the future.
Top Use Cases for AR Smart Glasses in the Enterprise
To say AR smart glasses and wearables are disruptive is an understatement, and every day we’re seeing new examples of how the technologies are transforming the way entire industries operate.
To help our readers better understand what smart glasses are capable of and how significant an impact they’re already having on the industrial, healthcare, and AEC sectors, XR Today created a list of the top use cases for AR smart glasses in the enterprise today.
Facebook Messenger Comes to Oculus
Outside the AR smart glasses realm, Facebook also made the big news list this week by adding Facebook Messenger to their Oculus virtual reality platform.
From February 2, Facebook began rolling out Messenger on Oculus for all Quest and Quest 2 users. Unlike before, people can now use the Messenger app to connect with friends while still immersed inside their virtual realities, marking a significant step forward for VR collaboration in the consumer space.
While nothing was confirmed, we strongly suspect the company will announce a similar feature for their enterprise “Workplace” platform at some point soon.
