Leading provider of hands-free head-mounted technology for the modern industry, RealWear, recently announced a new deployment from data specialist, Fugro. The Fugro brand has now selected and deployed the voice-enabled RealWear HMT-1 AR headsets throughout its fleet.
Fugro collects high-level information about every subsurface and structure, conducting operations in harsh and remote environments at sea and on land. RealWear says the company was searching for a wearable solution to reduce site visit numbers while maintaining and improving collaboration and communication across team members.
After consulting with VR Expert, the partner to RealWear, Fugro chose the purpose-built wearable technology for their global team.
Empowering the Global Fleet
RealWear notes that Fugro started it’s evolution with a single HMT-1 headset in 2019 and gradually increased its investment after initial testing and feedback. The company tested the headset in extreme weather conditions, and low bandwidth situations, and VR Expert adapted the software to determine settings based on user latency and bandwidth settings. The software also integrated into Fugro’s infrastructure as an on-premise service.
Following the successful validation of the technology, VR Expert designed special kits for Fugro, including accessories, headsets, and manuals that are now on virtually every Fugro vessel. According to the Global Director of Remote Support Services and Operations for Fugro, Hannes Sweigers, the RealWear HMT-1 is a powerful addition to the workforce toolkit.
Since deploying over 40 RealWeart HMT-1 headsets with the help of the VR Expert team, Fugro has been able to minimize in-person visits to locations that could be deemed dangerous. This ensures that the company can optimize its resource usage, decision making, and more, assessing situations on-site without the necessity for excess travel.
Building a More Efficient Team
The Remote Expert functionality of the RealWear HMT-1 wearable is also a critical tool for Fugro users. This solution allows workers to operate quickly and efficiently, with convenient access to expertise and knowledge from people across the globe.
According to the Cofounder and President of RealWear, Sanjay Jhawar, the HMT-1 has once again passed the stringent durability and ruggedization tests of some of the most challenging environments in the world. The Fugro team can now maintain it’s innovative position in the landscape by combining the headset with the power of the Remote Expert technology. Even in difficult times, RealWear is delivering solutions designed to empower all kinds of teams.
The CMO for VR Expert, Tim Nijland also commented on the recent deployment. He noted that working with Fugro from their vision point all the way through to validation has been an excellent experience. Without the reliability of the RealWear HMT-1 headset, the same outcomes wouldn’t have been possible. The VR Expert team says its proud to be delivering the RealWear technology to customers across the globe.
