As the world continues to embrace online shopping following the outbreak of the pandemic in 2020, we’re all searching for new retail experiences. Although the majority of shoppers would now prefer to avoid in-person shopping, we still want the opportunity to experiment with products and explore our options from the comfort of our own homes.
This is particularly true in the beauty environment, where customers can often find it difficult to choose the right shade of products without having access to the item in person. Whether it’s simply seeing a product up-close, or trying something on, it’s hard to get the same experience online as you would in the offline world. That’s why Google is here to help.
The launch of new AR functionality from Google allows today’s businesses to help their customers try on makeup products before they purchase them.
Try Before You Buy in a Virtual World
You may have seen similar experiences offered by third-party makeup apps in the past. Now Google customers creating apps in the US will have access to more AR functionality than ever before. Consumers can now make more informed decisions about the products that they want to buy, by visualizing what they might look like against their skin tone.
To create the AR experience, Google worked closely with the Perfect Corp brand and ModiFace. The resulting capabilities allow clients to better understand what thousands of eyeshadow and lipstick shades from their favorite brands might look like with their features. Some of the brands already using this functionality include Charlotte Tilbury, MAC, and L’Oreal. There’s even the option for users to compare textures and shades to find the right product.
Creating Better Shopping Experiences
The new AR functionality from Google aims to drive better outcomes and stronger customer experiences in the new digital environment. Aside from trying shades on, users can also get recommendations for which products might work best for them. As you’re browsing Google Shopping, or checking out the Discover feed in your Google app, you’ll receive custom recommendations from apparel, beauty, garden, and home experts.
If one of the items on your recommended list captures your attention, you’ll be able to tap on it to learn more from the experts about how the product works and how to make the most out of it. Shopping through your recommendations is quick and easy, and Google delivers the functionality with support from the Shoploop team, which was part of Area 120 before now.
The new functionality from Google should make it easier for people from all backgrounds to find the products that work best for them, without compromising on the convenience of home shopping.
